Are they just words

 
 We wrote on paper before all the new technology. We can simply burn it just like I did a couple days before I moved to the US. It disappeared forever.
         That was the summer in 2002. I was sitting on the ground in my backyard staring at the fire in front of me, sweating and throwing papers which were from two big piles on my both sides into the fire. The flames licked them quickly, and they disappeared into the air for eternity. I was trying to put everything behind me and get ready to go to the US to start a new page of my life.
         Three of my students came to say goodbye with beers in their hands. We drank and they read my love letters out loud before turning them into ash. We talked and laughed; somehow they turned my religious like ritual which was suppose to be kind of a serious, nostalgic ceremony into a wild, happy party. Those words on the papers were gone, but the scenes of that night were imprinted on my mind everlastingly.
         Yes, they are just words. Those words I can burn; I can make them disappear, as they've never existed. How about the words I’m typing now? Can I simply delete them? Someone told me a year ago that everything you put on the Internet which includes words, pictures... will be there, somewhere in the clouds... forever...  Does the universe have an outer edge, or is it unlimited?


PS. I’m not deleting any of my articles or pictures from now on. It’s worthless. For example, can you find any phrasal verb from this website?
No, you can’t. But, guess what? I do have a copy of it from 4 years ago. A total of 95 pages. It was only because I’m not a computer person, and I thought it was a good reference for my studies. HA!

只是文字而已嗎?
       在新科技普及之前,我們把文字寫在紙上.一把火就輕易的燒掉了所有的紀錄,就像我移居美國前那樣,我燒掉了所有紙張裡的回憶.
       那是2002年的夏天,我坐在後院的地上,凝視面前的那一盆火,雖然汗流浹背,雙手卻不停地將身旁兩大堆的紙張丟進火裡.看著他們被火焰吞噬,化為一縷縷白煙.我試圖拋開所有的一切到美國開始人生的另一頁.
       三個學生帶著啤酒來跟我道別.喝著啤酒,他們大聲念著隨手怗來即將成為灰燼的情書.我們邊聊邊笑,我原本那絲淡淡哀愁,那股懷著宗教儀式般道別過往虔誠的心,卻不知不覺中讓他們變成了狂歡的聚會. 那些紙張上的文字消失了,但那晚的情景卻永遠印在我心頭.
       是的,它們只是文字而已,而且是可以燒毀的.我們可以讓它們消失得無影無蹤,彷彿它們從不曾存在過.但,我現在打出來的文章呢?簡單的一個刪除鍵真得可以讓它們真得不見了嗎?一年前有個網友告訴我,任何你放在網上的圖片或文字,它們會永遠待在那......在空氣中四處游離......我們的天空有界限嗎?
PS. 我再也不刪文章和圖片了,只是徒然無功而已.舉個例--- 下面這個連線,你找得到任何片語動詞嗎?
哈!我猜對了.
但你知道嗎?4年前當我發現這個寶庫時,因為我不是一個電腦人,我喜歡手邊隨時有書可以翻,所以我整個印了出來,共95頁. 哈!

What will the consequences be if we can not delete the words we put on line?
ET is a simple place as you said and a relaxing coffee corner for us as Murmur said; we are all adults after all.
What I meant is haven't you seen all the very private pictures and thoughts on FB? Will those people regret it in the future?

They may not, for there are billions of users. Most of the people are nobody so no one will bother to do anything, unless you are First Lady then people may blackmail you. Believe me, once you die, all the things with you will be gone.
