Book Club

I don’t know how you’ll think of a “Book Club”, as for me, if you asked me a year
ago, I would’ve answered you, “It must be VERY boring.”
This is one thing I’ve learned that I would like to share with you.
“Book Club” can be fun!!! especially learning another language.

首先,要有志同道合的朋友
2-5 people is the ideal number.

2. 選擇聚會時間和場所
We chose the library, (這樣才不會一直想開冰箱找東西吃) and made reservations for a meeting room.

3. 選一本書

4. 決定下次聚會時要看完的頁數

5. 分派任務,任務每星期不同,以下可作為參考
Each person in the group will have a different role during the book club meeting each week.

*Discussion Leader
(You do your work before and during the meeting)
1). After reading the number of pages for the week, prepare discussion questions.
2). The goal is not to trick your fellow readers by asking yes/no questions or questions about minor details. Instead, ask a variety of question types so that the group can discuss their opinions.
譬如上次聚會我們的Discussion Leader準備的題目都很”,其中一題是
According to the author, “It was one of the rituals, the evening telling of feeling” at the conclusion of their evening meal. (page 4)
What do you think about sharing your feeling with your family every night?
Will it improve the relationship among your family members?
你絕不可能想到我們這些女人的話題扯到哪去了……
……………..
換妻俱樂部
哇哈哈!!!
We had a wonderful afternoon.

3). Print copies of your questions and bring them to the meeting so that your group members can make notes during the discussion.

*Recorder
(You do your work during and after the meeting)
1). While participating in the discussion, your job will be to take notes on what is said. Then you will summarize the discussion about each section.
2). 下次聚會時你要寫一篇300字左右的summary,還是一樣,要印給每個人一份,然後大家開始找碴,我發現這種peer review 的威力很大,~要找出別人的缺失實在太簡單了!!

*Vocabulary Detective
(You do your work before the meeting)
1). Your job will be to prepare a completed vocabulary chart and print copies.
2). At the beginning of the book club meeting, pass out your vocabulary chart and give others a few minutes to read it and ask questions.
要不要看看我們這禮拜的單字(我放在最下面,有興趣的話看一看)

*Vocabulary Quiz Maker
(for group with three members, the Detective and Quiz Maker jobs will be combined into one Vocabulary Expert job)
1). Your job will be to prepare a quiz for the following week, using the words that the Vocabulary Detective chose. Your quiz will begin the next meeting.
2). Use sentences from a dictionary.千萬不可以自己出題,句子寫錯的話可誤導大家了

要不要做看看我們這禮拜的考題(我放在最最下面,我們大家都考100!好棒!!!)

*Research
(You do your work before the meeting)
找一些書上提到的成語典故或歷史背景給大家做參考
人數不夠的話,這就是每個人都要自己做的功課了

報告完畢想不想也有個Book Club?
很好玩喔~Meeting過後還可以去大吃一頓,補補元氣!

Announcement: I will be the vocabulary detective next week and I would like to tell you that it won't have Chinese in vocabulary list. We will try to use simple English words to explain the vocabularies; I think it's a good way to learn a foreign language. Thus, please do you home work before the meeting. Thanks a lot.
我們下星期ㄉ字彙表將不會有中文說明,這是為ㄌ幫助我們學習英文. 我們將用簡單ㄉ英文字來解釋新ㄉ字彙,故請你們在家先做功課ㄡ. 謝囉,下星期見.

" The definition is only for matching the meanings in this book only."
以前查單字時,總認為要把字典裡對於這個字的所有用法都學會才能真正融會貫通
卻總是弄得自己灰頭土臉...一本書好像要唸一輩子
現在才知道,語言是一點一滴累積的

拜託喔!國中英語應付日常生活美語就綽綽有餘了
但看電視電影讀報章雜誌就得學一些"不實用"的字不是嗎?

你會跟你小孩說~會講中文(or英文or西班牙文...)就很了不起了,不必上學學那些 impractical的words嗎???
